How We Come Together

Mustangs

A small group of mothers met together in the Spring of 2006 to form a support group to meet the spiritual and fellowship needs of women who are unable to attend the Circle V fellowship group. The name 'Mustangs' came from a group member who was refurbishing a Mustang vehicle and reminds the members of the free spirit associated with the untamed horse; as adult women we're free in God's spirit to serve Him in our daily lives.
The Mustangs meet once a month for two hours in the church parish hall to pray, study and support each other living a Godly life in a complex world. The group focuses on reaching beyond ourselves to care for our neighbors. Examples are providing backpacks filled with school supplies to neighborhood schools, giving funds for holiday food baskets, hosting a blood drive and assisting with church food pantry.
Recently, the Mustangs started an annual retreat at a local renewal center to give us an opportunity to relax and deepen their spiritual connection.

Circle V is one of the women’s organizations at St. Mark the Evangelist.  Circle V was formed at Trinity Episcopal Church in the 1940's by a group of women who met for lunch and fellowship and Christian learning.  It meets the first Thursday of the month at noon, September through June, and enjoys programs and guest speakers, as well as the company of fellow members. They also arrange and assist at funeral receptions. Meetings and luncheons are open to ALL. One of their ongoing projects is the collection and distribution of personal hygiene kits for our neighbors in need.

Crop Walk 2019 Four West.jpg

4West youth group

In 2018, St. Mark’s youth formed a partnership with St. James of Skaneateles and St. John’s in Marcellus as well as St. Luke’s in Camillus. The newly-formed Youth Group call themselves 4West because it is a cooperative ministry of the four parishes immediate west of central Syracuse. The group meets every second Sunday of the month at a different host church. Meetings include a meal and fellowship and then students break off by age for Bible study and reflection followed by a service with the Holy Eucharist.

Prayer Shawl meets once a month at a parishioner’s home to create shawl and lap-robes for folks who are ill or shut-in. All crocheters, knitters and quilters are welcome and no previous experience is needed. We are all works in progress. Shawls are brought to the altar to be blessed and then put in a gift bag with Prayer of Blessing. Shawls are held in the church office. If you have a family member or friend you would like to receive one please feel free to take one.
